With the 4A Southwest District on the line in Evanston on Tuesday night the Lady Braves could not solve the Devils who completed the regular-season sweep of Star Valley with a 3-1 victory in Uinta County.
Evanston was able to close out the first two sets in the closing moments of each stanza with wins of 25-22 and 25-23. The Lady Braves battled back to avoid the match sweep by pulling out a 25-23 Set 3 but the Devils rode the energy of a raucous student section and the hitting of their junior twin towers of Stacia Barker (15 kills) and Emily Freeland (13 kills) for a 25-14 Set 4 victory.
Star Valley piled up the kills in the match behind 16 kills from senior McKenna Brog. The team also got 11 kills from fellow senior Addie Jenkins and ten from Mia Hutchinson. Service errors were a theme for the Lady Braves who battled from behind for what seemed to be the entire match.
The loss drops the Lady Braves to (12-6-1) overall and (2-2) in the 4A Southwest with both losses coming to the Devils. Star Valley will not have to dwell on the loss long as they host the Jackson Lady Broncs on Wednesday evening with a varsity start time of 6 p.m.
The evening will also serve as a fundraiser for the Ginger Thompson family as they cope with the aftermath of cancer treatments. An auction will take place immediately after the varsity match against Jackson.
Layne Parmenter and Brandy Taylor will have video coverage of the evening on SVI-2.
