Star Valley Arts Council to host Pumpkin Walk event

The Star Valley Arts Council says it will host a special Pumpkin Walk event on Friday October 30th at 6:30 P.M.

This will be an opportunity for members of the community to carve a pumpkin and display it for all to come and see. Director of the council, Tim Hale, says they’ve started initial advertising for it already.

“The response… so far has been overwhelmingly positive,” Hale said. “A lot of people in the valley saying ‘Yeah, we really wanna come and do this’ so it’s going to be a lot of fun.”

Val Bagley is a member of the council’s board and he proposed the idea. He held one last year in what he called a “trial run” in Fairview and even with snowy weather, 200 people came.

He says everyone needs to come with a pre-carved jack-o-lantern by 5:00 PM at the Fairgrounds Visitor’s Center on the night of the event.

“We have strings of Christmas lights we will use to light them,” Bagley said. “And everyone comes around and just looks at them.”

Hale says the pre-carved pumpkins are key to the event.

“The more pumpkins we have pre-carved that show up, the cooler this will be,” Hale said. “Picture walking into this area, there’s bales of hay-ride and corn stalks all set up and you kind of walk into this cool, eery lighting.”

Bagley says you do not need to worry about skill-level. If you have one of your younger children carve one there will be different sections based on the pumpkin display.

He also says if anyone is interested it will have assigned areas where people can come set up Halloween-themed decorations. You can pre-sign up for that by contacting the Arts Council.

“I’ve already had several people say ‘Oh I want to get one of those’,” Bagley said.

Both members of the Arts Council say come dressed up in your Halloween costumes if you wish as well. They would like this to have a great turn out.

“My hope is it’s so well-received we continue to build on this,” Bagley said. “That this is just the trial run for this year and then next year it’s even bigger because it has so much potential.”

The event will adhere to health guidelines and encourage people to social distance at least six feet between groups that is not their own. There will be hand sanitizing stations and signage to help slow the spread of COVID-19.
