With the eyes of the nation on the national race for The White House and the balance of power in the U.S. House and the Senate, the State of Wyoming turned out to cast their votes with many of those races called early. According to the Lincoln County Clerk’s Office, a total of 10,525 votes were cast in the county.
President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence carried nearly 83-percent of the votes in Lincoln County with Former Vice-President Joe Biden and Senator Kamala Harris garnering just over 14-percent.
Cynthia Lummis won a historic race becoming the state’s first female Senator as she defeated another woman on the Democratic ticket, Merav Ben-David with nearly 86-percent of the vote.
Liz Cheney also defeated a female Democratic challenger in Lynnette Grey Bull to retain her spot in the U.S. House. Cheney finished with nearly 81-percent of the total votes in Lincoln County.
In Kemmerer, Fred Baldwin ran unopposed in Senate District #14 and claimed 95-percent of the votes.
In Star Valley, Dan Dockstader was unopposed for Senate District #16 with 98-percent and Evan Simpson was likewise unopposed for House District #21 and picked up 98-percent.
Representative Scott Heiner took 93-percent of the vote for his spot in House District #18.
House District #22 includes areas of Lincoln, Teton and Sublette counties as Independent incumbent Jim Roscoe ran against Republican challenger Bill Winney. In Lincoln County, Winney out-drew Roscoe with 1,799 votes to 1,227. Roscoe handily took the totals in Teton County 1,679 votes to 635 votes. Roscoe also took the Sublette County votes 285-191. Overall Roscoe had 3,191 votes to Winney’s 2,625
All three county commissioners for Lincoln County will now call Star Valley home while the county seat is located in Kemmerer as Jerry Hansen ran unopposed and will join Jerry Harmon and Bob King. Hansen defeated incumbent Kent Connelly in the Primary Election.
In the Star Valley area, Homer Bennett easily claimed an At-Large seat on the Lincoln County School District Board of Trustees with 3,021 votes. Donna Ivie collected 2,209 and Lauren Dwyer picked up 1,565. Wade Hirschi (4,132) was re-elected in Area #1 over Landon Petersen (2,537) and Lane Allred was unopposed for Area #3.
Darnell Simpson (3,919) knocked off incumbent Eileen Merritt (2,927) in Area #4.
In the race for North Lincoln Hospital District Board: Andrew Orton (3,388) Randall G. Draney (3,201) and Kathryn Myers (2,702) took the day for three open spots.
In the northern end of Star Valley the formation of a Mid-Valley Fire District easily passed among the voters in Thayne, Etna, Freedom and Alpine with nearly 84-percent of voters approving the measure.
