October 1 is the start of our 4-H year. This year, the State 4-H Office has changed to a new enrollment system, https://4h.zsuite.org.
The goal with this new system is that 4-H families will have one site for all their 4-H needs. Members will find record books, announcements from their leaders, county office, and state office on this new website.
We encourage all those who have not signed up yet to please do so. The sooner 4-H members enroll; the sooner the club leader knows who is in their club. Some club have enrollment restrictions for safety reasons so sign up today.
Meetings for 4-H clubs will be starting up soon, if not already. The individual club leaders decide when a club starts meeting, while following the COVID guidelines to keep everyone safe.
There will be a 4-H Open House for those who would like to learn more about the 4-H program on Wednesday, December 9, 2020, 6:00 pm at the Afton Civic Center.
The 4-H program is a National Youth Development Program that has been in existence for over 100 years. The primary goal of 4-H is to assist youth in developing life skills that help them live productive and satisfying lives. It empowers young people with skills to lead for a lifetime. It is a research-based experience that includes a mentor, a hands-on project, and a meaningful leadership opportunity. The 4-H program gives members the opportunity to travel throughout Wyoming, the United States, and even internationally. Competitions and events are offered to meet a variety of interests and skill levels.
There is something for everyone in 4-H. The 4-H program offers animal projects and general projects. These general projects include a wide range of options: shotgun, cooking, sewing, photography, woodworking, leatherwork, visual arts, and many more options.
The 4-H program is operated with volunteer leaders. We are always looking for leaders. If there is an adult 19 years of age or older who would like to give back to the youth in our valley by sharing their talents, please contact the Extension Office.
To be a 4-H leader there are online trainings, one face-to-face meeting, a background screening, and a motor vehicle record check.
