The first avalanche-related death of the winter season has been reported as of December 19, 2020. The Star Valley Search and Rescue, reporting to the Bridger-Teton Avalanche Center detailed the slide occurred in the area of Sheep Pass.
According to those on the scene, it was a soft-slab slide in which an airbag was deployed but the person involved still did not survive.
“Our thoughts and prayers head out to the family of the out-of-satate victim,” the Star Valley Search & Rescue stated via their Facebook Page. “Please be aware and ride with caution.”
The victim’s name has not yet been released.
Observer notes from Bridger-Teton Avalanche stated that visibility was bad which hampered the recovery. The exact location has not yet been confirmed with forecasters planning to visit the site Sunday, December 20. More information on this story will be added as it becomes available.
