TEXT-IN TOPIC RESPONSES: Do you support congressional term limits?

Tuesday morning during the Weekday Wakeup on SVI Radio, Duke & Dahl asked listeners if they were in favor of term limits for members of congress.

The question came up after U.S. Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) once again introduced a constitutional amendment that would enact term limits for both members of the House and Senate. The proposal would limit Representatives to three 2-year terms, while Senators would be limited to two 6-year terms.

In a statement, Cruz said “Every year, Congress spends billions of dollars on giveaways for the well-connected: Washington insiders get taxpayer money and members of Congress get re-elected, all while the system fails the American people. It’s no wonder that the vast majority of Americans from every political stripe – Republicans, Democrats, and Independents – overwhelmingly support congressional term limits.”

Listeners chimed in with their opinions on the proposal. Below are their responses.

Support Term Limits For Congress

“Yes, yes, yes”

“Yes. That would get rid of the whole left wing.”

“Won’t do any good to vote. The left wing will just rig it.”

“Yes term limits and then let them return to private life controlled by the same laws and rules the rest of us have to live by! Davy Crockett had the right idea of service for the country and not for self.”

“Nice idea but I doubt the ones who it will affect will vote to implement limits on themselves. Then 75 percent of states have to ratify it. I don’t think anyone in Vegas would take those odds.”

“Yes we need term limits…they lose touch with what is going on back home after to many years, they become DCfied …to many of them go in with little money and come out wealthy…how does that work?”

“Totally agree- many of them seem to forget who they represent and get too concerned about their own interests.”

“I like what Senator Cruz wants to do. TERM LIMITS PLEASE.”

“Absolutely”

“Yes When they make their career out of politics they stop supporting the people. They forget who they represent.”

“Heck yes on term limits. Prevents Career politicians.”

“Term limits were imposed on the president “in fear of too much power” if the terms continue. What has happened to congress? Actually, three terms for the house is generous.”

“I am 100-percent in agreement with term limits. Think about how many of the corrupt names we talk about that would be gone.”

“Absolutely yes! The founding fathers never envisioned such greed over power.”

“Effective immediately.”

“Should of had term limits 50 years ago we wouldn’t have Schumer Shifty shift Pelosi extra now.”

“I am all for Term limits, lets get back to the original intent of the framers….where people would come and serve for a short period of time. Then return home to continue there business. Today we need to require them to wear jackets with the sponsors displayed so we can see who is paying them off, woops excuse me supporting them..”

“Yes!!! Term limits will prevent the current situation we are in. A sense of entitlement, ownership, and thinking your personal agenda is better than what we the people want. It will force them to work. To actually listen to us. We need more of a voice! And by being able to vote people in and out of those positions will give us the power we the people need. Time to drain the swamp and get some real constitution loving and abiding people in there.”

“Yes, yes, yes, we need term limits! That’s the best way to “drain the swamp”.”

“I am in favor of term limits. I think this is a long time coming and I I hope that it will pass.”

Do Not Support Term Limits For Congress

“No Term limits. Since when did we decide that we don’t want people with experience making big decisions. We have some thing for term limits; it’s called voting.”

“No keep it how it was we are ruining America.”

“All voters have to do is not vote for a sitting Senator or Representative if they don’t want them in office. Voters don’t. Therefore the extended terms of service are the result of voters, not politicians. I’m not in favor of term limits being legislated. Such laws actually limit voter rights. Let voters choose, not lawmakers.”
