A Kemmerer man won the $1000 top prize at the 2021 Kemmerer Lions Club annual ice fishing derby this past weekend. Preston Walker landed a 21 ½ inch fish to garner the top prize. Other big winners included Mandy Allen of Preston, Idaho, who brought in the biggest fish caught by a woman, and Brendan Sickler from Smithfield, Utah who caught the biggest fish by a kid. Hourly and daily big fish prizes were also awarded for the two day event held at Lake Viva Naughton, located north of Kemmerer. The Kemmerer Lion’s Club awarded over $14,000 in prize money over the weekend.
Kemmerer Lion’s Club President Mark Quinn says there were 325 entries in the ice fishing derby, which is down a little from last year. The Lion’s Club usually donates to a special cause from the money they raise each year, but Quinn says they are still looking for a project to donate to for 2021. He asked that if anyone had any ideas about who or what to donate to, please contact the Kemmerer Lion’s Club.
Quinn noted the Lion’s Club does plan to donate funds to help renovate the Kemmerer kids fishing pond. The Kemmerer Lion’s Club also donates money every year towards eyeglasses for the needy and scholarships
