Bowling Pro-Am to raise funds for area rollers.

◆ Junior National Gold Tournament takes place in Indianapolis.

Those looking to not only have some fun but also aid a group of area youth in getting to a national competition should consider dusting off their bowling shoes and heading to Skyview Lanes in Afton this Saturday.

“There will be lots of door prizes and it’s going to be a lot of fun,” said Skyview owner Kris Simkins. “It is open to any youth or any adult; you don’t have to be a pro or be in any of the bowling leagues.”

One adult will be paired with one youth (18 and under) and bowl as a team. It is free for any kid that wants to bowl. The cost for the adult is $25. All proceeds will be used to send high-school bowlers to the Junior National Gold tournament in Indianapolis, Indiana.

If you find yourself missing a partner? No problem.

“If kids want to bowl and don’t have an adult, we will find someone who can fill that spot,” Simkins said. “Or if an adult wants to bowl we can find a kid for them.”

The event is sponsored by SVI Media, First Bank and the Bank of Star Valley.

Bowlers who are endeavoring to make the trip have been all across Wyoming; competing in nearly every town in the Cowboy State that still has a bowling alley.

“These kids that are going have probably stacked up more than 20 tournaments this year all over Wyoming,” Simkins said. “Did you know there is more money given out to high school students for bowling than any other sport? It’s true!”

Simkins noted that former youth bowlers such as Treyson Hemmert and Beau Merritt used scholarship money to go to college and that this year’s group is the largest yet.

“There’s six seniors and a couple of juniors,” she added.” This will be the first year that we’ve had this many in the travel league.”

Simkins is asking those who wish to be part of the event to be at SkyView Lanes by 9:15 a.m. this Saturday.
“It’s a lifetime sport and good exercise,” she concluded. “The kids work really hard at what they do and we’d love for people to come out and support them this weekend.”

Skyview Lanes is located at 970 Washington Street in Afton. For more information on the event call them at 307-886-5606.
