Rock Church Summer Theater will do a show this summer and will have open auditions Saturday from 1-4 p.m.
The Rock Church Summer Theater, sponsored by the Star Valley Historical Society, will hold a show this summer after missing last year due to COVID-19 and will have open auditions this Saturday from 1-4 p.m.
Those will be held at the historic Rock Church in Auburn and director Kristin Bringhurst says to dress warm if you come.
“It doesn’t have heaters,” Bringhurst said. “It’s usually pretty chilly for auditions every year.”
She says those coming to audition will need to come with a song prepared and they will provide scripts to read. She also says they are looking for enough people to fill two casts as everyone will have a double.
“The performances run every Friday and Saturday in July and that can overwhelm people,” Bringhurst said. “They might think ‘Well I don’t want to give up every Friday and Saturday in July’. So, the solution to that is everyone has a double, so you would be doing just half of those shows.”
She did also mention they consciously picked a smaller show to keep numbers down.
“Just kind of easing back in after COVID,” Bringhurst said.
She says in addition to the performances, rehearsals will be Wednesday and Thursday nights in May and June. Then there will only be the shows to do in July.
The shows are all locally written and produced. She says this year’s show was last performed in 1997 and it is a situational comedy. The shows held at the Rock Church usually dive into aspects of history in Star Valley and some go way back. Bringhurst says this one, however, takes place in the 1980’s.
“It’s really the only one that’s that recent,” Bringhurst said. “So I guess it’s history, the 80’s are history.”
She also wants people to know they need a cast of all ages.
“We need people like as young as seven up to, we’ll take someone in their 80’s,” Bringhurst said. “Men, women, children, grandmas, grandpas, we’d love to have anybody come out.”
She also says it really is a team effort and a lot of hours her staff puts in. Laurie Hyde serves as costume director and Bringhurst says she does a great job. Melanie Seilbach serves as prop and set director and Eileen Humphreys serves as music director.
Bringhurst also says if you cannot make open auditions, you can call her to set up a different time at 307-887-8689.
