Turning the dial back in time: 80’s Day is next week

◆ 80’s Day returns to Swift 98 Wednesday, June 16.

It was the decade of cassette tapes, hula hoops and Nintendo. Cheers was on TV and the movie Ghostbusters was on the Big Screen. You probably drove either an Oldsmobile or a Chevy Cavalier. Gas was around $1/gallon and you could get a burger for even less.

There were mixtapes, bunny ears on your television and “The Rest of the Story” with Paul Harvey. It was back when things you liked were described as ‘bodacious’ or ‘tubular.’ It was the 80’s. And it’s time to go back.

Swift 98.7 FM, Star Valley’s hit music station, returns to the days of big hair bands on Wednesday, June 16 for the annual 80’s Day: sponsored by Rocky Mountain Yeti.

The entire day will be filled with nothing but music from the decade of neon tracksuits and highwaisted jeans. Listeners will hear top hits from groups like Bruce Springsteen, Journey, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Beastie Boys, Bon Jovi, The Police, Dire Straits, Van Halen and Aerosmith, just to name a few.

In addition to the music the on-air DJ’s will take you back in time with the decade’s top news, events and sports stories of, the most popular toys, TV shows and movies and who were the most recognizable celebrities and political figures.

And if that’s not enough, listeners will have a good chance to win some great prizes just for tuning in.
Swift 98 won’t be the only SVI Media platform getting in on the 80s Day action. Be sure to look for stories in that day’s Star Valley Independent for a look back at what was happening in Star Valley in 1981, 40 year ago.

80’s Day can be heard over traditional radio waves on Swift 98.7 FM or online at SVInews.com/radio or the SVI News App.
