Lincoln County, Wyoming — Every year, National 4-H Week sees millions of youth, parents, volunteers, and alumni come together to celebrate the many positive youth development opportunities offered by 4-H. The theme this year is Find Your Spark.
With so many children struggling to reach their full potential, 4-H believes that young people, in partnership with adults, can play a key role in creating a more promising and equitable future for youth, families and communities across the country. In 4-H, we believe every child should have an equal opportunity to succeed. We believe every child should have the skills they need to make a difference in the world.
Lincoln County 4-H will observe National 4-H Week this year by highlighting some of the inspirational 4-H youth in our community who are working tirelessly to support each other and their communities.
During National 4-H week we will have 4-H fliers on local pizza boxes, with pictures and information in the Afton area. We will have fliers about 4-H on tables at local participating restaurants. Come into the Afton Office and guess how many green candies are in the jar. There will be state-wide events and competitions also.
The start of this week is also our start of re-enrollment for the upcoming year! In Lincoln County, more than 378 youth and 62 volunteers from the community are involved in 4H. There are many opportunities for youth and volunteer leaders to get involved in Lincoln County. We have many great clubs and projects. Projects range from cooking, sewing, visual arts, woodworking, cake decorating, leather work, shotgun, dog, horse, beef, sheep, swine, goats and many more.
One of the most anticipated events of National 4-H Week every year is the 4-H STEM Challenge, formerly known as National Youth Science Day. The theme of this year’s event, which is expected to see hundreds of thousands of youth across the nation taking part throughout October, is Galactic Quest. Designed by Clemson University, the 2021 4H STEM Challenge, Galactic Quest, focuses on the mysteries and adventures of space exploration.
Galactic Quest explores the history of humans in space, the technology and resources needed for missions, and the obstacles humans encounter in orbit. Activities explore important STEM topics ranging from physics and engineering to computer science and space agriculture.
