No charges have been filed after a hunting accident in the mountains near Cokeville. The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office reports that they responded to an emergency request for aid on October 16. An investigation revealed that a father had been shot by his son through the accidental discharge of a rifle.

The LCSO stated in a press release that during the course of the investigation it became apparent the firearm safety had not been properly engaged. The discharge was accidental but did result in the subsequent death of the father.

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office and the Lincoln County Attorney’s Office have reviewed this matter and determined that no criminal charges are appropriate. Due to the sensitive nature of this incident, as well as the fact that a minor is involved, all names have been withheld from public release.
