Lulah Largo Schaal, born October 18, 1949, in Crownpoint, New Mexico as part of the Navajo Tribe (Diné—the people) into the Kiyaa’aanii Clan (The Towering House). She passed away on November 10, 2021 at the age of 72, in the home of her oldest daughter (Carmelita Guild) in Afton, Wyoming.
Stomach cancer was the cause of her death, but she stayed strong until the very end, as she had always done throughout her life.
She was predeceased in death by her parents Arthur Largo and Grace Billy; her brothers, Jerry Charley, Harry Charley, and her cherished aunt, Pauline Begay. She is survived by her sisters Margie Marion, Ethelyn Charley; her brothers, Eugene Charley, Larry Charley; her five children, Travis (Chelsea) Begay, Carmelita (Adam) Guild, Michelle (Bill) Powell, DeAnn Toledo Gehring, and Dayna (Brittany) Toledo; and her 21 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Lulah was raised by Beulah Etsity and Grace Billy in New Mexico for most of her upbringing and another part of it with Roy and Zoe Gibson in Nephi, Utah as part of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Indian Student Placement program.
As a single parent, in 1980, she took her five young children from Church Rock, New Mexico to Provo, Utah to attend Brigham Young University where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education.
With an adventurous spirit, in 1996, she received her commercial driver’s license (CDL) and drove an 18-wheeler and tour buses for 25 years. In 2012, she earned her Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from National University and was in the process of writing a book.
Lulah loved reading, analyzing movies, eating out, long walks, singing (although not a great singer), and traveling. She was proud to have visited 49 of 50 states. She was an amazing writer and devoted much of her time to it. She gave everything to her kids, even when she didn’t have the means herself. She loved her grandchildren and doing simple things with them. She was always willing to help anyone in need. Wherever she went, she always made friends and they admired her strength.
She was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had a beautiful testimony of Jesus Christ. She was diligent in reading the scriptures with her children in their youth. As a result of her many hardships, Lulah was invariably tough, independent, strong-willed, and most of all resilient. Her sacrifices gave her children a life she never had, for which they are forever grateful.
An honorary memorial service will be held Saturday, November 20, 2021 at 1 p.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints building 2530 West 200 South Provo, Utah.
Margaret Ellen Wolfley Brierley was born to Ernest and Wanda Wolfley on June 17, 1948. She passed away in her home on November 13, 2021, with her loving husband by her side.
They were married on March 27, 1986. Later they were sealed in the Idaho Falls temple on September 26, 2014. She was a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother.
Margaret loved being in the mountains. Fall was her favorite time of the year. She was a hard worker and always took care of her people that she loved. She was a dispatcher for 18 years. She loved to crochet and embroidery. Her hands were always busy making something beautiful.
She is loved by many and will be greatly missed. She is survived by her husband Orson Brierly, her children Cody Nelson, Dusty (Bret) Jackson, Jeremy Nelson, Shannon (Jake) Shepard, Bobbie (Ben) Young, Jim (Kelly) Brierly, 17 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 20, 2021, at 12 p.m. in the Schwab Funeral Chapel in Thayne, Wyoming., with a viewing prior to the funeral from 10-11:50 a.m.
