◆ Scott “Buddy” Jackson held on $50,000 bail.
A Grover man is facing felony abuse charges after allegedly hitting one person and beating his roommate’s dogs with an aluminum baseball bat. Scott “Buddy” Jackson was arrested at 1:32 am on November 27 and is currently being held in the Lincoln County Jail.
According to documents filed Monday, November 29 in Circuit Court, Jackson has been charged with felony aggravated assault and battery, two felony counts of cruelty to animals, domestic battery and reckless endangerment.
Court documents state that police responded to the Grover Trailer Court after dispatch received a call that a dog had been beaten with a bat and another had been shot. Upon arrival law enforcement found and questioned Jackson, who admitted to beating the dogs because they would not stop barking while he was watching a movie. Another female resident of the home stepped in front of the dogs to try and stop Jackson from hitting them, only to be hit multiple times herself. During the altercation Jackson pulled out a 9mm handgun and pointed it at one of the dogs. The roommate again stepped in between Jackson and the dogs. With the gun now pointed at her, the roommate slapped the gun upward. She told police the gun fired into the air after she hit it, and that Jackson then threw her into the wood up against the wall. According to Jackson’s statement he then tossed the gun.
Other witnesses at the scene shared similar statements with officers, saying that the group had been drinking before the altercation occurred. Jackson was taken into custody and transported to the Lincoln County Jail in Kemmerer without further incident.
Officer statements read that the two dogs, both pitbulls, were both bloody. One with blood on her two front legs and a swollen and bloody eye. The other dog had a noticeable limp. Both dogs were taken to a local vet for treatment. EMS was also paged to the scene, however the female roommate declined transport to the hospital for her injuries, which included possible broken ribs.
During Jackson’s initial court hearing on Monday bail was set at $50,000. Because the charges included felony offenses, Jackson was not asked to enter a plea until the case reached the District Court.
