It was a rough weekend for the Jackson faithful on both the boys and girls side of things. With an 0-4 outing over the course of Friday and Saturday, the girls dropped to 2-15 on the season and have now lost 14 consecutive games since the new year started and the boys will enter senior night this Saturday at 7-10.
Starting on the girls side of things, Rachel Noyce and Anna Revill each showed out in the 2 contests over the weekend, each totally double digit scoring on both days. However, the good news ends there as they failed to truly put up much a fight in the 2nd half vs hated rival Star Valley in their own home gym on Friday night eventually going down 47-32 at the final buzzer. A quick turnaround Saturday afternoon provided the potential to get the bad taste out of the Lady Broncs mouths but unfortunately the Lady Wolves of Green River were simply too much to overcome right from the jump. a 62-32 final score was drastic enough as is but frankly, does not tell the whole story as the Wolves began pulling starters halfway through the 3rd quarter of the game. Both Daryn Macy and Megan Counts balled out, getting double figures in scoring despite being benched once the game was entirely locked up. The Lady Broncs will conclude their regular season with 1 final chance at a 2022 regular season victory when they take on the Evanston Red Devils at 2pm this Saturday on Senior Night in their home gym.
For the boys, it wasn’t a much more joyous week of ball. Despite leading by 7 at the half, the Broncs saw the Star Valley Braves storm back in the 2nd half (a recurring issue for the Broncs this season) and ultimately claimed a 2 point victory in a thrilling game in front of a raucous crowd. The Broncs did a good job defending the home gym a week ago with a 2-0 stand vs Rock Springs and then Natrona but this was Star Valley’s night, in particular it was Kort Hilton’s night as he led the Braves in scoring and was key in their 2nd half push, topping 20 points in the contest. Andrew Hanna had a game for the Broncs in a bit of silver lining, scoring 24 and leading all scorers on the night and would follow that up with 14 more on Saturday. However, despite the efforts of Hanna, Gavin Keelin, and AJ Fowler who all topped double digits at Green River, it wouldn’t be enough as the Wolves stomped the Broncs 69-49 as Dylan Taylor and Caleb Lake put on a clinic in front of the Green River crowd. The Broncs look for a last grasp for some momentum this Saturday as they face Evanston as their 3 seniors will be honored in their final game in front of their home crowd.
