Teton County School District #1 Recognized for FLEX Program

The National School Boards Association (NSBA) awarded Teton County School District #1 (TCSD#1) with the 2022 Sliver Magna Award. The NSBA Magna Awards honor districts across the country for programs that break down barriers for underserved students.

“We want to thank NSBA for recognizing the efforts of all districts to support public school students each and every day,” said TCSD #1 Superintendent Gillian Chapman about the award. “Students benefit from creativity, support, and relationships provided by innovative programs and staff.”

The program that earned this recognition is Jackson Hole High School’s (JHHS) FLEX program.

According to TCSD#1, the FLEX Program allows teachers to provide individualized support for students for 35 minutes every day. Students participate in various educational activities tailored to their specific needs and interests during the FLEX period. JHHS also offers twelve Fridays throughout the school year where students who need additional support attend four one-hour classes to receive extra instruction. All of the FLEX programming occurs during regular school hours to ensure equal access for all students.

“Our graduation rate of 98.1% indicates that the FLEX program highly benefits students and aligns to our strategic plan goal of graduating life-ready students,” Chapman said.

In addition to the graduation rate, JHHS saw the daily attendance rate improve to over 98% and above state average ACT scores for 11th graders since implementing the program.
