Thayne held its monthly town council meeting Thursday, June 16. All five councilmembers were in attendance, including the mayor.

Councilman Joe Heward reported that Wyoming Workforce Services had requested space in the town offices to meet with clients a few hours per week. This was aproved by the council.

The council approved the contract to form a Mid Valley Fire District, encompassing Thayne and Star Valley Ranch. Star Valley Ranch’s town council did not approve the contract, however, so the project is stalled for another month.

Councilwoman Nicole Passey reported that the fire department has been accquiring wildland fire equipment. She noted that everyone on the crew is trained in wildland firefighting now.

The council discussed at length two subdivisions. Mayor Devin Simpson made clear the town’s priorties.

“We need to make sure we protect our current and future residents,” Simpson said.

First before the council was a sewer variance petition for the Downing subdivision on Dana Street. The council denied the homeowner permission to use a septic tank in town limits, but would allow trenching or boring across the road in order for the home to be on the city’s sewer line. The town of Thayne owns the road and is awaiting the deed from the county to move foward.

Another residential concern before the council was an early stage proposal to subdivide the Hemmert Ranch property. The city is still awaiting sewer, water, and road reports from the developers on the 113 acres. 

Mayor Simpson moved to adopt a City Road Masterplan to guide the town moving forward. 

Upcoming in Thayne is the Independence Day celebration, which will start on July 2 with the Vocalist Music Festival and a cornhole tournament. On Monday, July 4, the festivities will begin with a pancake breakfast and short program at 7 a.m. The parade will be held on the fourth at 10 a.m., and Lance Skinner will be the Grand Marshall.
