Forest Service re-opens Cottonwood Creek Rd. after ten day closure

The Bridger-Teton National Forest has reopened Cottonwood Creek Rd. (FS10208) ten days after it was closed due to flooding.

The road, which runs east of Smoot to Cottonwood Reservoir, was closed June 13 when a logjam in Cottonwood Creek caused roughly 18 inches of water to run over the road. Crews have since been able to free the logjam.

The Forest Service said roughly 75 yards of the roadway had its road base washed away. The road in that area is currently very rough, but it is open. The Forest Service plans to fix that portion of the road later this summer.

The road would have likely been opened sooner with repairs made quicker, had it not been for the historic flooding that occurred in Yellowstone National Park the same day. All entrances to the park were closed. Currently only the south loop is open. Forest service resources had to be directed to the flooding in Yellowstone National Park.
