◆ Applications for free and reduced cost meals available.
Starting with the 2022-23 school year, breakfast and lunch will no longer be free for students. The program, which made meals free for regardless of income, expired June 30. The free school meals program began in March 2020 when Congress authorized the U.S. Department of Agriculture to issue dozens of child nutrition waivers, including ones that expanded summer food programs.
The program that provided free meals for all students has ended. Parents will need to apply for free or reduced cost meals.
“It is true the waivers allowing us to serve all students free meals, both breakfast and lunch, have come to an end,” said Sue Helm, Director of Nutrition Services at Lincoln County School District No. 2. “We are in the process of getting the USDA Free and Reduced Meal Application uploaded to Infinite Campus where parents can go online to apply. We will also have paper applications at each school and the district office if a parent would like to apply this way.”
For the upcoming school year, breakfast will be $2.00 with lunch costing $3.00 for elementary students in LCSD No.2. Star Valley Middle School prices will be $2.25 for breakfast and $3.10 for lunch. At Star Valley High School breakfast will cost $2.25 while lunch will be $3.25.
Free and reduced meal appli- cations for the upcoming school year can be found at lcsd2.org under the family and students tab.
