Two of the returning all-state members of the Big Horn Rams Volleyball program took some time this week to sit down with Duke and Dahl to discuss their season thus far this year as their team currently sits at #1 in the 2A Northeast conference.
“Teams are on our back and gunning for us. So that’s kind of good for us to notice because it gives us a push to get better and we’ve been working on that this week.” Said Zimmer about the teams great season to this point. Their official record currently sits at 23-8 with a 4-1 record within the conference putting them several games ahead of any of their closest competition in the standings. The team also currently sits at #1 in the WyoPreps coaches and media poll in the 2A.
The team was coming off a big time rivalry win over Tongue River last Saturday 3 sets to 2 which the team feels was so big because of the rivalry between the 2 schools formed by proximity as they do sit just 30 minutes on the bus away from one another.
Perhaps the most important aspect of this season to remember as well is the youth it still has on the roster, both Emma and Saydee are still just juniors who were big time parts of last year’s state championship team both having been named to the All-State team of course and look to repeat as champs this season. If the Rams can manage the repeat this year they will also of course still be returning both these young ladies NEXT season presumably on top of that and what a run Big Horn could truly go on here.
“It’s been a real cool experience being able to step up into those leadership roles going from freshmen year to now and looking into next year” – were Emma Prior’s thoughts on their progression with this team.
The girls also stated their desire to face Burns this year in the end of everything as they have had their eye on the new addition to the 2A division after dropping down from 3A last year. It should be an incredibly entertaining and competitive State Tournament this year and we can’t wait to see how far Prior and Zimmer can help carry the Rams this year as they look to repeat as the Champions of the 2A in Wyoming.
