As snow begins to pile up along the sides of Wyoming Highways, accidents have cropped up both as a result of too much speed for hazardous road conditions as well as the ways that also affect driving such as doing so while impaired.
A recent study by Forbes Advisor revealed that Wyoming ranked #3 in the nation for most dangerous place for drivers.
According to the study, the Cowboy State struggles in the following areas:
- Since 2019, Wyoming has experienced a 14% decrease in car accident fatalities.
- In Wyoming, 33% of fatal car accidents are a result of speeding, while 39% are due to impaired driving.
- Nationally, 29% of fatal car accidents are a result of speeding and 35% are because of impaired driving.
- Since 2019, fatal car accidents have increased by 7% across America’s roads with over 38,000 car accident fatalities every year.
- Montana’s 150,446 miles of roadway are the most dangerous in the nation, while New Jersey has the safest roads.
- South Carolina, Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, and North Carolina are all among the top 10 most dangerous states to drive in, making the southern region of the U.S. a high-risk place for motorists.
- South Carolina and Colorado experience the most fatalities due to excessive speed (46%) than anyplace else in the U.S.
Wyoming is not alone in the West when it comes to dangerous driving locations. Montana led the list with the most dangerous state for drivers. Montana ranked first in the nation for highest percentage of fatal accidents from impaired driving with a whopping 51-percent of deaths being attributed to the drinking culture.
Neighboring state, South Dakota ranked sixth overall as the most dangerous.
The study looked favorably on another neighboring state as Utah ranked as the third-safest state for drivers, trailing only New Jersey and Massachusetts.
Idaho was ranked 29th, Colorado was 16th and Nebraska was 37th among the safest states.
