The Bear Lake Lady Bears have had some early season struggles to this point in the season starting fast out of the gate, often finding themselves trailing in games early and having to fight their way back in the 2nd half which can be common among more youthful teams in the sport. Tonight however, the Bear Lake girls played their most complete road game from start to finish that I have covered so far this season.
While Marsh Valley came out strong and hit 3’s on both of their opening possessions to take the early 6-2 lead, Bear Lake didn’t let the points or momentum compile on them and managed to immediately climb back into it and keep the game within 4 for a vast majority of the game. The score ended up being 23-19 at the half in favor of the Eagles with Saydee Shaul hitting a pair of clutch 3s in the half to keep the Bears in fighting distance on the scoreboard.
The 2nd half though belonged to Bear Lake early on, after some quick turnovers from each side started things off, Lilly Crockett entered the game and scored on back to back possessions and they got another 3 from Shaul to take a 27-23 lead. That lead quickly evaporated itself into a 28-27 score before they would retake it and then play back-and-forth for several consecutive possessions as both offenses seemed to find some fire.
With just 2 minutes remaining in the game it was a 1 point Eagles advantage 39-38, unfortunately a string of miscommunications and bad breaks went the other way in the final minute and a half which allowed the Eagles to extend their lead to 9 before the final but that is mildly deceiving as the game was incredibly hard fought and back-and-forth throughout. You can catch Bear Lake Girls Basketball action on SVI 4 during home games and their radio broadcasts for their road contests on the Wave all season long.
