The Bears girls have been clinging on in every contest this year thanks to their defense for the most part, ranking as the 2nd best defense in the conference behind only West Side but had to this point struggled to bring the scoring partially due to the youth of their starting lineup. Last night however there was no such issues with the offense, right from the jump the long ball was a big part of the game plan for the Bears as guards Tayzley Neal and Saydee Shaul combined to make 3 3-pointers to open the with Dani Bassett adding a lay up in between the 2nd and 3rd 3’s meaning Bear Lake started with the hottest start of the season scoring points on their 1st 4 strait possessions to open the game.
The tone was set from that point on as the Bear started with a commanding 11-2 lead to open the game and never let the Aberdeen Tigers get back even into the rear view, slowly gaining more and more ground as the game progressed thanks in large part to the 3 point shooting on display in the game. Shaul and Neal were the prime contributors but Emyri Walker and Morgan Armstrong also took a couple 3’s on the game and everyone was just draining them on this night. Your offense will always benefit from a good night of shooting from your best distance-shooters of course but more than that the passing was also on-point.
Several times throughout the evening the Bears showcased the catch and release quick passing game around the corners until finally getting a crashing player open at the rim for the easy lay up, it was easily one of the most impressive offensive displays of the season for the young team. The defense was predictably at this point very good as usual, holding the Tigers to 24 points and forcing them to take contested long shots all day not to mention forcing double-digit turnovers by intercepting passing lanes all night.
The ladies ultimately took this one 54-24 which marked the 2nd most points they have scored in a game all season and perhaps an indicator of some things to come as the year marches on. Catch radio coverage of the girls next game tonight against Richfield on the Wave and video coverage on SVI-4.
