The Bear Lake girls took to the road on Thursday for their second clash of the season with the Malad Dragons, the first of which was in Montpelier and ended by the final score of 44-34. In the rematch the Bears played one of their finest games particularly on defense of the season, matching the Dragons multiple times and trading the lead back and forth throughout the game however Malad managed to pull away thanks mostly to great free throw shooting in the final 2 minutes and take the rematch 44-35.

A nearly identical score to the first contest between the 2 teams but a much different path to get there, the Bears started off hot hitting on all their passes in the offensive zone and opening up the forwards in the post for several easy lay-in shots. As the 1st half carried on though the Dragons started to catch on defensively and forced Bear Lake to adjust which they did and started getting their big time shooters involved with their sophomore guards hitting a few clutch 3’s to keep the game close and at one point take the lead in the 3rd quarter.

A 17 consecutive point streak by the Dragons would ultimately prove to be too much for the Bear Lake girls to handle in the end however, the huge run gave Malad a double digit lead in the 4th quarter and while Bear Lake would show great fight in the end to climb back to a close contest, the deficit forced the Bears to begin fouling as time ran down toward a minute and then Malad started hitting on all their free throws, ultimately ending Bear Lake’s chances of coming back. It was still a great game played by Bear Lake though and hopefully turns into momentum to be capitalized on as Regionals lie within a week.
