Last week a pair of four time all-staters took some time out of their busy pre-state schedule to sit down with Aaron and Dahl and discuss their career with Star Valley Cheer to this point. Both members of the quadruple all-staters discussed having a background in dance and gymnastics prior to high school as part of their previous athletic history that led to them choosing Cheer which to this point has turned out extremely well for both themselves and the Star Valley Cheer team.

The schedule right now for the team might catch some people off guard as the girls discuss as maybe the casual fan wouldn’t assume a particularly rigorous schedule for the cheer team but that simply is not the case as the team actually has more practices per week this time of year than the Basketball team does. Part of the reason for that as the girls discuss is the constant implementation of new cheers as the team often comes up with new ones during practice and implement them for game day and competition environments mixed in with the traditional cheers the team has been doing for many decades now.

When asked what it was like transitioning from being the star freshmen to now being the leaders on the team both girls expressed shyness and reserves entering their first year and compliment the other for being important to making neither girl feel too alone since they each had another freshmen on the team. However the leadership aspect came upon them sooner than they may have been expecting as their sophomore year the team had only 1 senior returning to the team and as sophomores with freshmen year experience on varsity they were asked to be leaders fairly early on into their varsity careers with the Braves.

Also a major shout-out is given to “Akron” the choreographer who comes in to help the cheer squad put the stunts and routine together from the ground up during practices starting with training camp which is a vital aspect of the teams success and synchronicity. The state competition has also picked up a lot of steam in recent years and is garnering way more fan support in attendance than it used to in years past in Wyoming and so having a skilled choreographer there to put together an impressive, eye-catching routine to bring home that trophy is bigger than ever.
