Lady Braves Wrestling At State Championship

The path wasn’t easy or clearly defined for the Braves girls wrestling team, this being the first year of sanctioned girls wrestling in the state of Wyoming at the high school level, and the team took that statement and made it slightly more literal over the weekend as with roads closed for weather-related Wyoming tom-foolery the ladies took a bus to Casper with a snow plow escort in order to go try to claim the first girls state championship in Wyoming history. Coach Kendall Foreman has been one of the key leaders for many years in the fight for girls wrestling in the state and her daughter happens to be something of an ace for the team as well.

Coach Foreman says that most of the girls on the bus had no idea what was even going on during the trip to Casper which she found to be slightly funny as even the bus driver was terrified by the conditions on the road but the girls were too focused on the business at hand and the camaraderie of the trip. After the 1st day of the event the Braves had already clinched 8 placers with 2 making it to the finals (one of which ended up bringing home the 135 lbs individual state championship the next day).

“In a lot of the girls matches it is pin or be pinned” was the testament from freshman Cara Andrews who has impressed many fans and the coaches alike with her success this season despite her youth in a difficult sport for most people to jump into and be successful at with less experience. Cara managed to make it to the finals and ultimately brought home 2nd place at 145 lbs after pinning 3 strait opponents to make the finals where she ultimately fell also to pinfall to Central’s Meadow King in a way proving her pin or be pinned phrasing to perfection and putting the entire state’s women’s division on notice going forward for the next 3 years.

Veil Foreman faired slightly better in her finals matchup at 135 pinning Danika Crumrie from Lovell in the 1st period in just 1:32 to capture her individual state championship and then tackling and pinning her mom, Coach Foreman, in celebration after the match. Foreman had one of the most impressive state championship runs in recent memory after receiving a 1st round by, Foreman pinned all 4 opponents through the tournament, 3 of those pins coming in the 1st period and the only non-1st round victory came in the 2nd period just 35 seconds into said period in the semi-finals.
