Day 1 of the 4A West Regionals resulted in a few upsets and all schools making their adjustments as they work avoid elimination on Day 2.
The girls bracket opened up the tournament with Green River (1SW) pulling away from Riverton (4NW) in a 55-35 final.
Rock Springs (2NW) defeated Evanston (3SW), 53-39, to advance to the semifinals. The match up is scheduled for 3 pm.
The Cody Fillies continued their onslaught against the rest of the classification as they pitched a first-half shutout and sent Jackson to the Consolation Bracket, 65-6.
The Lady Broncs will now face a very familiar squad as the Lady Braves (2SW) came up short against the Kelly Walsh Trojans (3NW), 42-37.
Riverton faces Evanston at 9 am with Star Valley versus Jackson at 10:30 am.
On the boys side of the bracket, Riverton (1NW) pulled away from Green River for a 61-45. The Wolverines will take on Rock Springs (3NW) who sent Jackson into the Consolation Bracket, 73-53. That game is scheduled for 6 pm.
Green River faces Jackson Hole in an elimination game at 12 noon.
In the late session the Evanston Red Devils (3SW) pulled the day’s biggest upset as they knocked off the Cody Broncs (2NW), 58-54 in overtime. It snapped a seven-game winning streak for CHS who now will battle Kelly Walsh (4NW) in an elimination game on Friday after Star Valley fended off the Trojans, 57-46. The Braves and Devils play at 7:30 pm. The Broncs and Trojans play at 1:30 pm.
