The Winter season officially came to a close on Saturday night as the Ford Wyoming Center hosted the 3A and 4A Basketball Championships.
The Cheyenne East Thunderbirds won their first 4A Boys title since 2006 as they defeated Laramie in the championship, 68-59. The T-birds got the championship with wins over Jackson Hole and Campbell County.
The Plainsmen were in the finals for the first time since 2011 with wins over Riverton and Cody but came up short against East.
The Cody Broncs defeated Campbell County, 57-50 in the third-place game and Riverton defeated Star Valley, 53-49 in the Consolation Finals.
In the 4A Girls Championship, the Cody Fillies claimed their first ever state championship with a 65-53 win over Thunder Basin. It was a long wait for the Fillies made even longer by a championship loss to Cheyenne East in last year’s title game. The Fillies completed an undefeated season at 25-0.
