In their most recent meeting, administration from Southwest Wyoming schools held their regular meeting and with the school year winding down, selected their choices for the most outstanding student athletes in the region.
Taft McClure was named the SW District Senior Student Athlete for the 4A ranks.
McClure threw for over 3,300 yards and 34 touchdowns while completing more than 65% of his passes this Fall. The Braves went 10-2 overall which included a win over previously undefeated Cody in the 3A State Championship game.
During the basketball season he averaged 13.4 points per game and over five rebounds while leading the team in assists. He shot a 4A-best 51-percent from beyond the three-point line as the Braves won 17 games, including the 4A West Regional title.
Athletic Directors and High School Head Coaches met in Rock Springs on Tuesday April 18, for the annual Southwest District Senior Student Athlete of the Year selection meeting. Each year the best senior student athletes from Southwest Wyoming are nominated for this outstanding award. Athletes are nominated based on their athletic achievements, academic success, and leadership in their school and community.
Recipients of the SW District Senior Student Athlete Awards are: 3A/4A Girls, Sage Bradshaw of Lyman. 3A/4A Boys, Braxton Tre Cordova of Green River and Taft McClure of Star Valley. 1A/2A Girls, Whitney Bennett of Saratoga. 1A/2A Boys, Colby Jenks of Big Piney.
