Kelly Merritt, Defensive Coordinator at Star Valley High School has been named the 2023 Broyles Award Winner for the State of Wyoming as the top high school assistant football coach. 

A lifelong Wyoming Cowboys fan, Coach Merritt received the news of the award as a special surprise from University of Wyoming Head Coach Craig Bowl as the staff was in Laramie as part of off-season study.

Coach Merritt has coached at Star Valley High for 17 years.  He has been the defensive coordinator since 2016. The Braves have won five of the last eight Wyoming 3A State titles.

•In 2018, the Broyles Award added to their 25-year tradition of honoring the nation’s best collegiate assistant football coaches through the creation of the High School Broyles Award. This award recognizes the top high school assistant football coach in every participating state, projecting their excellence onto the national stage.
