The Star Valley Braves were, before this year, the only 4A school in Wyoming that didn’t have any form of youth soccer to teach the young athletes in the valley the fundamentals of the game early on before middle and high school. However, that will soon be changing thanks to the upstart youth soccer league being started up by several members of the community including Tori Probst who joined Aaron and Dahl for an interview with First Bank of Wyoming Sports Friday to discuss the new league.

The league will feature multiple age categories but may have a few age groups fused together early on depending on the number of kids that come out to play in the first year. 7 and 8 would be the main age demographic for the league early on at this time with the hope of splitting them into 2 age groups as previously stated but the league is being realistic about the possibility of running a single age group for a season or 2 while the league picks up steam.

The sport is one of the fastest growing in the state of Wyoming which is somewhat a showcase for the nationwide scene for soccer which is quickly gaining popularity state-side at a significantly faster rate the last 10 years than ever before in American TV viewership and those TV viewers are starting to turn into prospective future players. With this growth for the sport there grew the demand for leagues like this one being brought up to nurture the love of the game in the youth so they can grow into their game and overall just have a lot of fun.

Fundraising will likely be a big part of the league early on to keep some costs under control for things like uniforms and equipment and things of that nature as the league is registered as a non-profit organization so interested kids and parents should keep this in mind and be prepared to participate in that. Registration for the first fall season should be up in late July according to Probst and another season will take place in the spring that may also include several tournaments around the state of Wyoming with that season beginning in early May depending on the weather.
