$3,060 Raised to Support Trafficked Survivors’ Aftercare and more in Facebook Fundraiser
• All funds sent to Libertas International.
In a heartwarming display of community support, a Facebook fundraiser organized by Ashley Call has successfully raised $3,060 to aid trafficked survivors in their journey towards recovery. The funds collected in this charitable effort were donated to Libertas International, a non-profit organization founded by Tyler Schwab, who was recently honored with the prestigious “Shield of DIPRO award” and “Protector of the Innocents” statue by the Republica de Colombia Policia Nacional.
Ashley Call’s motivation to initiate the Facebook fundraiser stemmed from the impactful film “The Sound of Freedom.” This gripping movie, which delves into the harrowing world of human trafficking, struck a chord with Ashley, compelling her to take action and make a difference.
Ashley asked herself as she drove from the movie theater, “Do I just learn Spanish and move my family to Columbia, or what do I do?” She decided on starting the Facebook auction fundraiser.
Funds raised were directed to Libertas International, a non-profit organization committed to assisting trafficking survivors on their journey towards a brighter future.
Libertas International has consistently shown dedication and commitment to making a meaningful impact in the lives of survivors.
Libertas International, as stated on their official website (libertasinternational.org), is a non-profit corporation dedicated to educational and charitable purposes. The organization’s mission is to combat child trafficking in Latin America through a multifaceted approach. Their core objectives include:
• Prevention through Education: Libertas International is committed to raising awareness and educating communities about the dangers of child trafficking. By equipping individuals with knowledge and resources, they aim to prevent children from falling victim to this heinous crime.
• Intervention and Rescue: The organization actively intervenes in situations where children are at risk of or have already become victims of trafficking. Through strategic partnerships and initiatives, they work to rescue and safeguard these vulnerable young lives.
• Rehabilitation and Empowerment: Libertas International’s aftercare programs play a vital role in the rehabilitation of survivors of human trafficking. By providing essential services such as counseling, medical support, and vocational training, they empower survivors to rebuild their lives with dignity and independence.
Ashley mentioned to SVI that some of the medical care also includes treatment and testing for STD’s and removal of tattoos.
These initiatives reflect Libertas International’s unwavering commitment to combating child trafficking and supporting survivors through every stage of their journey. It is organizations like Libertas International that inspire hope and positive change in the fight against human trafficking in Latin America and beyond.
In addition to their work in Latin America, Libertas International extends its reach to bring awareness to human trafficking issues closer to home, including trafficking in the states and of travelers going to Latin countries to participate in sickening acts.
