• Fossil Basin will serve Kemmerer, Diamondville and Opal.
A new chamber of commerce has been formed in southern Lincoln County. The Fossil Basin Chamber of Commerce has been organized to further help businesses in Kemmerer, Diamondville and Opal. The former chamber, KDCA, has disbanded.
Board member of the newly formed organization Seth Snyder told the SVI Radio Network, which includes KDWY and KMER in the Kemmerer/Bridger Valley area, the reorganization came about because community members thought they could just do a bit more. So, locals and business owners got together to create this new group. He says they had to go through the process of setting up a non-profit and advertising.
“From there we started getting members,” Snyder said. “It’s very new. It’s just been a couple of months and well on our way to start having events. Really start showing what the Kemmerer, Diamondville, Opal area has to offer.”
He says they really want to try and be inclusive of the entire area in south Lincoln County. He also says there are a few focus areas they will have right at the beginning. He says one big thing they want to do is spotlight businesses.
“Not just new businesses, existing businesses,” Snyder said. “We want to show everyone what the Kemmerer, Diamondville, Opal areas have.”
He says they also want to have events that will bring some camaraderie to the area and to get community members out to have fun. He says they will put on seminars and workshops to help businesses and individuals to learn about various things like funding, grants, etc.
“And then things like education,” Snyder said. “Like starting a business.”
He says one big thing they will be a part of is the downtown beautification work in Kemmerer. He says they need a nice and cohesive look. He also says the Visitor’s Center will also be overseen by the new chamber as well.
“We got a contract with the city (Kemmerer),” Snyder said. “We are working hard to get it cleaned up, open the doors.
“It’s the downtown cabin right on the triangle. It is going to be where the board has their office. It’s going to be where we do most of our meetings publicly and it’s going to be for the tourists coming in.”
He says in the next few months they will be working on getting a booklet together for people visiting from out of town. He says this will be given to people moving into the area as well. This will show everything they have as far as businesses, things to do, history, etc. He also says it will be there in the cabin along with a person to talk and to answer questions.
