December is expected to come pouncing into Star Valley this weekend with the first significant snowstorm of the winter. The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch for the valley from 11:00 a.m. Saturday through 11:00 a.m. Monday.

According to the NWS-Riverton Office, heavy snowfall is expected over the weekend with a total storm accumulation of 7-14 inches possible on the valley floor. Winds could gust 20-30 miles per hour in open areas.

The heaviest snowfall is expected in the Alpine area and along the foothills of the northern half of Star Valley. Forecast models show the heaviest snowfall happening Saturday night.

Road conditions were already slick by Friday morning in the valley. Deteriorating travel conditions are expected through the weekend. Current road conditions can always be found at wyoroad.info and on the Wyoming 511 mobile app.
