The Afton Volunteer Fire Department is reminding residents to have their chimneys cleaned as we head into the winter season. The reminder was prompted after the fire department was dispatched to a report of a chimney fire on Jackson St. in Afton Monday afternoon at about 3:45.

Fire Chief Dennis McDonald said that this time the fire was not serious and no damage was caused. He said the homeowners just needed to have their chimney cleaned.

“This is a good reminder for the public to make sure to get your chimney cleaned, and cleaned periodically,” said McDonald.
