Additional Public Engagement planned for E-bike Proposal (Select Jackson Area Trails)

The Bridger-Teton National Forest will offer additional public engagement opportunities for the proposed E-bike Designation on Select Jackson Area Trails.  The additional opportunities are in response to the Forest’s emphasis and history of community connection with the front-country trail program and high public interest in the topic.

Jackson District Ranger Todd Stiles said that he anticipated high interest so was not surprised when over 330 people submitted comments covering a wide array of perspectives and concerns. All the letters and comments have been reviewed with specific ideas, benefits, and concerns categorized. In January 2024, the Forest intends to release a video recording to share the full summary of public comments and provide information about the environmental analysis process and next steps. Following the video release, there will be an in-person public E-bike workshop/design charette to help develop alternatives for consideration during the environmental analysis process. This workshop is planned for February 2024, but a specific date has not been set.

Ranger Todd Stiles noted that public input is absolutely critical to help inform the best path forward for the resource, the visitor experience, and the manageability of this new use. “E-bike technology is here but the issues are complex. The front-country trail system developed with lots of community input and partner contributions. I am confident that we can come together again with constructive dialogue and creative ideas to manage e-bike use”.
