The Wyoming Department of Transportation is asking drivers to not pass snowplows on the right, event on five lane highways such as Highway 89 between Etna and Alpine.

Joe Eggleston, Highway Maintenance Foreman for WYDOT, said there were two recent instances where drivers passing on the right in a five-lane highway hit the wings on the plows.

“We’re out there to try and provide a safe road to travel on. We’d just like to remind people to give us room and respect our space,” stated Eggleston. “When you pass a snowplow on the right it’s going to make it hard to see.”

And it’s not just the snow flying off the right side of the plow causing visibility problems that is at issue. “If there’s something laying on the road and the plow picks it up, and you’re passing on the right, that object might come through your side window. That’s on top of whatever snow might block your view.”

“We’re out there trying to keep the road safe,” concluded Eggleston. “I know sometimes if feels like we’re in your way, but please respect the plow.”
