• “We can close the border or close the government.”

Washington, DC – Congresswoman Harriet Hageman voted against yet another continuing resolution to kick the can of government funding down the road for another forty days. New funding deadlines are now March 1st and March 8th, with no changes from FY2023, the largest spending bill ever passed by Congress.

Rep. Hageman stated, “While I appreciate the difficult position that Speaker Johnson has inherited, we simply cannot continue the status quo even one more day. Each day that passes brings thousands more illegals that have been trafficked across Joe Biden’s open southern border.

I have been to the border at both Eagle Pass and Yuma, where local sheriffs have been imploring us to do everything possible to stop the surge of illegals – even if it means shutting down the government toforce border security.

“Each day we continue to fund this bloated federal government at FY2023 Covid-era levels. Our nation is 34 trillion dollars in debt and over 8.5 million people have illegally crossed our southern border. Both problems are unsustainable and threaten the safety, security, and very future of our country.

The House of Representatives has passed H.R. 2, the strongest border security and immigration bill ever introduced in Congress – this is our opportunity to force the Schumer-led Senate and Joe Biden to act on an issue that most of America cares deeply about. We can either close the border, or we should close the government until we do.”
