This week as the Star Valley Braves get set to host the Kelly Walsh Trojans (7-9)(1-2) (Friday 7:30 p.m.) and the Rock Springs Tigers (7-10)(2-1) (Saturday 2 p.m.) they will do so as the fifth ranked team in Wyoming’s 4A classification.
The latest wyopreps.com Coaches and Media Poll tabbed Star Valley as #5 in their latest rankings which reflects the state’s notice of Star Valley’s run of success over the past several weeks.
Since a 69-47 loss to Natrona as part of the Flaming Gorge Classic on December 15, the Braves have won nine consecutive games and 12 of their last 13 overall. The team is currently (13-3) overall and (3-0 in the 4A Southwest.
Most recently, the Braves went on the annual northwest road trip and defeated Cody (64-39) and rallied to pick up a win in Riverton (56-54).
This is the first time the team has been ranked in the polls this season. Matt Shumway is in his first season as head coach assisted by David Moore, Aaron Lancaster and Ben Hale.
