Star Valley’s traditional Spring Has Sprung Craft Fair is happening this Saturday in the South Exhibit Hall of the Lincoln County Fairgrounds in Afton. Doors open at 9 a.m. and proceeds from the event go to benefit local children and youth in need of financial support.

Though the committee does not have a specific individual or group of children yet selected as recipients of the proceeds, the committee keeps their eyes open throughout the season, looking for children and youth who could use a financial boost.

We try to divide it up and help as many as we can,” explained Tanya DeJournett, who serves as an organizer for the event. “Last year, we donated to the 4-H kids that didn’t make weight with their animals. If they don’t make weight, they can’t sell them, and it’s hard to recoup any money when they can’t sell their animal.”

The Star Valley High School Boys Soccer Team is also helping with setup. They will be greeting folks at the door and accepting the $1 cover charge that guests pay to enter the fair.  For their service, the team members will receive a portion of the fair proceeds to pay team fees.

DeJournett is confident that this year’s group of vendors has a great selection of crafts and items of interest to please the crowd. Lunch, provided by Shandi Major, will be available for purchase. “She has been doing it the last few years,” said DeJournett. “I know she’s going to have chicken tacos and she usually does some great soups and baked goods. She always has a really good menu.”

New vendors from Montpelier, Rexburg and Idaho Falls have registered for the event. There will be a couple of direct sales vendors, local honey vendors, and other local vendors that have been there in the past. Shopping music will be provided by Upstream Entertainment.

“We try to have a really good group there and we just try to help out as many kids as we can,” said DeJournett.  “It’s getting spring time and everybody’s wanting to get out and do stuff and this would be a great opportunity to get some early Mother’s Day shopping done for all the significant women folk in your life.”
