• Proceeds from the fundraiser go towards graduation costs for the SVHS Junior Class
Star Valley High School’s Student Council is hosting the second annual Parent Prom on Thursday, April 18 at Gather on 89, in downtown Afton, from 7:30-9:30 p.m. With a theme of “Life Could Be a Dream” (Sh-Boom” by the Chords) from Disney’s “Cars,” the evening will serve as a fundraiser for the Junior Class to aid with costs for their 2025 senior trip, graduation ceremony and clothing, and various other year-end activities.
“We stumbled onto this event last year from some suggestions from community members and it turned out to be a big hit,” shared Student Council Co-Advisor Tyson Balls in an email to SVI Media. “We had been looking for ways to generate some more income for [graduation] events and this fundraiser seemed to fit the bill.”
The evening features memorable music provided by a professional DJ, light refreshments and a trip through Swirl for a frozen yogurt treat with each ticket.
“What’s not entertaining about a bunch of oldie goldies dancing,” Balls asked. “Where else do you get the chance to attend Prom again? Last year there was a lot of hesitancy from the attendees, but it turned out to be a huge hit. We had a lot of really positive comments about the event and people’s desire for it to come back this year. People were able to cut loose and really enjoy themselves.”
Student Council Co-Advisor Adam Baker knows the value of fostering good memories and making new ones. “It is a super fun event, and it had a great turnout last year.”
Balls and his wife had an enjoyable time last year and encouraged everyone to give it a try. “Get over your nerves and jitters and just come and have fun. There are not a lot of events where you can get out on a fun and unique date experience, so everyone should definitely take advantage of the opportunity to have fun and support our kids.”
