Star Valley Health has announced a partnership with the Kunz family for the 2024 Star Valley Half Marathon that will take place on Saturday, July 13. This annual event is held in honor of Jeremy Kunz, a running enthusiast who was tragically killed by a drunk driver in 2009.
This year race organizers are adding a 5K race that will make it possible for even more people to participate in this healthy activity.
The Star Valley Half Marathon and 5K is open for runners, joggers, and walkers of all ages. A free Kids Fun Run will be held at 7:30 a.m. the morning of the event. And through Star Valley Health’s website and social media channels, race attendees will have a little help while training for the event, courtesy of Star Valley Health’s athletic trainers.
“In the coming weeks, the Star Valley Health athletic trainers will be posting videos to help everyone – regardless of their fitness level – prepare for the half marathon or the 5K,” says Mark Taylor, president of the Star Valley Health Foundation. “These videos will include tips on stretching, training, injury prevention, and training programs to make sure everyone is ready for race day.”
Partnering with a community fitness event aligns with Star Valley Health’s support of public health. In March of this year the health system released a Community Needs Health Assessment. Physical activity, nutrition, and weight were listed as a major or moderate community concern by 75% of the report’s key informants.
“The mission of Star Valley Health is ‘Supporting individuals, families, and our community in achieving their best health,” says Taylor. “We hope as the community embraces this race, that good health will be on everyone’s mind.”
Proceeds from the event will help benefit local families in need. Further information about the race can be found at StarValleyHalfMarathon.com and StarValleyHealth.org.
