The Alpine Fire Department responded to the south side of Palisades Reservoir on April 23. The fire was located near the shore at the end of County Road 100, which runs through the Alpine Airpark.
In a statement posted to social media, the fire department said they were dispatched to the area around 2:30 p.m. Upon arrival they “found a grass fire burning at the edge of the lakebed.” The fire burned approximately an acre of grass and moved to the driftwood piles toward the road.
“AFD responded with three fire apparatus and five members,” the statement reads. “A Caribou Targhee fire unit also responded from the Jordan Canyon prescribed burn. Star Valley Health assisted fire units. The fire was extinguished and mop up was completed.”
The misuse of a campfire was credited as the cause of the fire.
