Western Wyoming Community College (Western) is proud to announce the exceptional employment outcomes achieved by its recent graduates, further solidifying its reputation as a cornerstone of workforce development in the region. On Friday, May 3, 2024, representatives from Genesis Alkali met with Western instructors, students, and graduates of the Plant Operations Program to conduct interviews for the purpose of making contingent job offers.
Genesis Alkali continues to provide students from the program with opportunities. As current expansions happen across Southwest Wyoming, Western has demonstrated that students who successfully complete their program will find employment opportunities in their industry, prior to or upon completion of having received their certificates or degrees. The program feeds the pool for future hires into Trona and other related industries.
“We are thrilled to see our graduates thriving in the workforce and making meaningful contributions to their respective industries,” said Dr. Kim Dale, President. “At Western, we prioritize equipping students with practical skills and real-world experience to ensure their success beyond the classroom.”
The success of Western’s graduates can be attributed to its comprehensive approach to education, which includes hands-on training, industry partnerships, and personalized support services. By collaborating closely with local businesses and employers, Western ensures that its programs align with current industry needs, providing students with relevant skills that translate directly into employment opportunities.
Another one of Western’s business partners, Ian Hampton, Procedure and CAS (Pro-CAS Team) Supervisor at ExxonMobil Corporation, shared, “The Operations, Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I), and Industrial Maintenance programs from Western have created a higher qualified candidate for full-time employment for our Wyoming Facility. We have converted interns and hired five for full-time ExxonMobil employee positions and have two May graduates coming into full-time employment with our embedded contract folks as our hiring is closed for the year. Our goal is to continue to strengthen our relationship with Western, align our hiring campaigns with Western graduations, and continue to hire from these programs.”
Christian Kelly, an E&I student shared, “Western Wyoming’s access to local industries and teaching talent has granted me several opportunities for internships and job opportunities. Western has plenty of degree choices that helped me diversify my knowledge in a high demand technical skill. Thanks to Western, I was able to land a position as an E&I tech at ExxonMobil.”
“We are deeply committed to empowering our students to achieve their career goals,” said Amy Murphy, Dean of Outreach & Workforce Development. “Our focus on practical, career-oriented education prepares graduates to excel in the workforce and make a positive impact in their communities.”
As Western celebrates the success of its graduates, it reaffirms its dedication to fostering a dynamic learning environment that empowers students to reach their full potential and pursue rewarding careers. Zadie Taylor, a graduating nursing student shared, “After completing the accredited Registered Nursing program at Western I was able to look for a career within my passion of health care. Western hosted a career fair on campus that I was able to attend and give out my resume to several hiring agencies. At the career fair, I found a great opportunity to work in correctional nursing and was offered a position to work in a state correctional facility, opening the doors to a registered nursing career in a field that has endless possibilities for growth.”
