Star Valley Hosts High School Rodeos

• Rodeo returns to fairground again this weekend for District Finals

Star Valley was host to the final high school rodeo of the regular season on Friday and Saturday at the Lincoln County Fairgrounds. High School and Junior High School age athletes from around western Wyoming and eastern Idaho converged in Afton to compete in the Idaho District 8 schedule.

The highlight of the Friday rodeo was in Team Roping where two teams from Star Valley finished in first and second place. Ryder and Case Kerr of Afton finished in first with a time of 7.590 while Tristen and Ross Hilton of Afton were right behind them in second with a time of 7.630. Daxton Pope of Cokeville and his roping partner Sage Cooley of Mountain View finished in sixth place in the same event Friday with a time of 11.810. Ryder also finished second in Tie Down Roping with Ross coming in fourth and Case in fifth.

Kaylee Leseberg of Star Valley Ranch had another successful outing on Friday, finishing in fifth place in Pole Bending and sixth place in Barrel Racing. Brooklyn Brown of Afton came in ninth place in barrels. Payzli Nield of Afton also brought home a top 10 finish after coming in sixth in Breakaway Roping.

Action continued into Saturday where the Kerr brothers again performed well in team roping, taking second place with a time of 11.24. Ross Hilton of Afton finished in third place in Tie Down Roping.

Leseberg’s best finish of the weekend came on Saturday when she earned a second place finish in Barrel Racing with an 18.402. In the same event Brown finished in 5th on Saturday. In the Goat Tying event Brown was eighth on Saturday while Leseberg was fifth in Pole Bending, Nield in ninth.

The District 8 Finals will be held this Thursday and Friday at 6:00 p.m. and Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at the Lincoln County Fairgrounds. The rodeos are free to attend.
