Town of Afton board members met in their regularly scheduled meeting in June and discussed the following items.

•West Alley Project

This project is now “back to the drawing board” due to a trash easement which did not have full support from all land owners. It was anticipated that after a two-week period the town would re-address obtaining the signatures.

•In a report from the Afton Fire Department, it was stated that two sets of bunker gear has been obtained. The department is responding to nearly one call per day on average with most of those being vehicle accidents. There was no new report on an anticipated new truck.

•Cameras on Star Hill

A new “Earthcam” will show a panorama of the valley according to a report to the council from Paul Scherbel. The camera will be installed by Silver Star Communications. A proper height of the camera was discussed by the board to capture the best images but also be in reasonable proximity to power. Mr. Scherbel suggested to the council the possibility of purchasing a second camera which would look up the hill and also capture images of those on the trail for the purposes of security. He stated that there were offers to donate funds for the second camera.

The council offered concern at the cost of an additional camera which was quoted by the company. Ongoing costs were a primary concern.

•Condition of Baseball Fields

Mr. Rich Huntsman addressed the council as to the current state of the baseball fields in the area, specifically Canyon View Park. He stated that as a coach of his son’s team he felt the grass was adequate but that the infield dirt is “terrible.” He pointed out that Star Valley is the largest community in Wyoming without organized baseball and that he would like to work toward a solution for more adequate fields and ways to make things better. He pointed out that the dugouts and benches are in need of repairs and attention.

Mayor Jensen added that baseball is in the Park’s Master Plan and that there are plans to move baseball back to Canyon View. There is a goal of updating both fields at Canyon View Park with the concept of making one of them an official American Legion field.
