Body of Idaho Falls man recovered after drowning on Palisades Reservoir
The body of a man who drowned Saturday in the Bear Creek Drainage of Palisades Reservoir has been recovered.
According to the Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office, dispatch received a call just before 11:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 10 advising that four people in a canoe had overturned and only three of them made it out of the water. Deputies responded to the area along with Idaho Falls Ambulance, Swan Valley Fire, Air Idaho Rescue and the Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office Dive Rescue and Drone Team.
A search ensued on the ground and from the air for several hours through the night by rescue personnel, resuming in the daylight hours. By mid-morning on Sunday, divers located the missing man, identified as Damion Pavlat, 25, of Idaho Falls. He was found using sonar equipment approximately 13 feet under the surface.
Witnesses on the scene at the time of the incident advised deputies that none of the occupants in the canoe were wearing life jackets when it overturned.
The Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate and no further details have been made available at this time.
