• Proceeds benefit local veterans
The VFW Post 4797 held the drawing for their annual gun raffle on Monday, August 12. The drawing was done live on SVI Radio during the Weekday Wake-Up. Montana resident Caren Virnig was drawn as this year’s winner. Virnig won a M1911A1 pistol made by Ithaca in 1945.
1459 total tickets were sold, a record amount for the VFW. The funds raised will be used to support the VFW and the programs in the community.
“One of the challenges that Veterans of Foreign Wars Posts have throughout Wyoming is fundraising and having the funds to really support the programs that we do for outreach,” stated Post Commander Jerry Lainhart. “We work hard with our local schools here to give them the opportunity to participate in these programs. For us it’s an opportunity to get these kids to participate in these programs and have an opportunity to win some national scholarships that will certainly go to helping them further their education after high school.”
Junior Vice Commander James Wood mentioned a few of the programs offered by the VFW specifically, including the Patriot Pin and Voice of Democracy. “We help with the youth and teens to help show them what we do and what we’ve done to be where we are as Veterans of Foreign Wars,” said Wood.
The VFW Post 4797 does plan to hold another raffle for a gun next year. Details will be given as the raffle is announced in 2025.
