Star Valley Ranch updates building inspections

 

• Building code updated with 2nd Reading, public comment centered on town regulations for chickens.

An ordinance updating the existing code and clarifying language for building inspections was passed on 2nd Reading by the Star Valley Ranch Town Council Tuesday, Sept. 10.

Ordinance 2024-11 XV Land Usage Chapter 150 Buildings also include updated language for stop work orders, occupancy and driveway regulations.

Public Comment

• Under public comment time  in the meeting, concerns were raised over maintaining chickens within the town limits.

Former Mayor Boyd Siddoway warned that town regulations on the matter may be in conflict with Home Owner Association (HOA) rules. He noted the HOA rules were in place prior to the formation of the municipality.

Young families attended the council meeting to seek approval to continue raising chickens, noting the teaching opportunities it provided for children. In one presentation a child offered a prepared statement to the council calling for continued use of the small family run operations.

Council member Ru Rok acknowledged there are “strong opinions on both sides” and asked that time be allowed for  a due diligence study of the town ordinances.

• Under public comment Wayne Hansen  noted that sixth penny tax programs were established for the use of road and water improvements and questioned the use of the voter approved optional tax, for the construction and maintenance of community trails.
