The SVHS Marching Braves traveled to Rexburg on Saturday, September 28 to compete in the Madison Band Competition, and came away with the Fourth place ribbon out of 13 participating bands.
SVHS Band Director, Kurt Sand, was pleased with their performance and is grateful for the perspective that this experience gave them. “Our show is significantly more challenging than last year’s show. We had two less weeks to prepare for this event compared to last year.”
In spite of a shorter time to prepare for this competition, the band earned a higher score and finished one ranking higher than they did last year. Judging criteria included “music and marching execution, as well as visual effect. It was a very tight competition among the top four bands, just 3.3 points separated first through fourth place.”
“The Marching Braves did a fine job over in Rexburg on Saturday,” said Sand. “I am very proud of the band’s efforts this fall. The Madison performance accomplished exactly what we wanted it to. We now have a very clear idea of the areas to work on in these next three weeks as we prepare for the Wyoming State Marching Band event.”
